This large square glass panel illustrates an ammonite using low relief, colours and various processes to accentuate the texture of the ammonite. The front of the wall panel is smooth with the texture being on the underside of the glass creating shadows on the front. The glass is slightly translucent, the colours are different shades of blues and turquoises in a swirl, you can see that the relief makes the design look different depending on the angle you look at it.
DIMENSIONS: 50.80x61cm | 24 wide x 20 high"
The front of the panel is smooth and the back is textured.
After completing his degree in Glass in 2002, Matthew worked for a large glass design company in London before setting up his own business in 2012. Matthew designs and makes everything in his studio in Dorset, on the south coast of the UK, near the Jurassic Coast. All the moulds are hand-carved, he applies the colours manually and the glass is slumped over the mould in a kiln at temperatures over 800C and annealed to ensure strength and durability.
